Scout Pack- Pioneer Badge
Below you'll find details of what the pioneer badge entails. We've put together a handy kit which contains all the basic resources you need to be able to practise and learn the knots and whippings you need to know.
Kit contents: RRP £40
Swedish fid for splicing 3 strand rope
1m x 12mm hardy hemp 3 strand rope for the splices
1.5m x 6mm braided polyester rope for the knots
5.5m x 6mm jute rope for the lashing and coiling
1 x jute tiddler- 15m of colourful jute twine for crafting
1 x spool whipping twine - can practice whipping on any of the ropes above
3 x 3m paracord for practicing knots and creating a keyring, bracelet or lanyard

How to earn your badge:

As a member of a group, take part in:
-
an indoor pioneering project, like constructing a guided missile launcher or chariot

an outdoor pioneering project, like building a monkey bridge, a raft or parallel runway

Show the correct way to do these:
-
a whipping or safe rope sealing
-
a splice
-
coiling and storing a rope
-
using levers to extract objects or move heavy weights
-
being safe in pioneering projects. Explain why it’s important.

Name and tie at least six knots and three lashings that are useful in pioneering.
